The Week of Joy
Saturday, December 19
Light two purple candles: the candle of Hope, and the candle of Preparation. Light the candle of Joy, the pink candle.
Read Psalm 5:10-12, Psalm 28:6-8, Psalm 90:13-15.
For gift giving, try for one year to instruct family to buy only from Goodwill or garage sales for the adults on their shopping list. See who can get the best gift for a bargain.
Seashell Soaps. Melt a chunk of clear soap in a microwavable dish. Add fragrance and mix. Pour into muffin mold, completely or partially submerging animals and shells. Place a frog with its nose sticking out of the “water,” for example. Allow one hour to solidify. Place two or three soaps in a pretty jar, or place in soap dish and wrap in cellophane tied with ribbon.
(Supplies: small marine animal plastic figures, or seashells and smooth rocks collected from the beach, bendable silicone muffin molds, microwavable clear glycerin soap, and soap fragrance, optional)
Father in heaven, we thank you for your love. Today, let us carry a sense of how much you love us to give us such a gift as this beautiful day. Let the awareness of your love encourage us to be more reverent in the tasks and thoughts of the day. Your glory fills our spirits. In your precious name, Amen.
Peaches and Cream Dessert. Collect three glass cups or mugs. Drain 1 can of peaches and layer 3 slices of peaches in the bottom of each mug. Add ½ cup of vanilla or peach flavored yogurt on top of the peaches. Repeat layers. Top with whipped cream.
“Every man feels instinctively that all the beautiful sentiments in the world weighs less than a single lovely action.” James Russell Lowell, American poet (1819 – 1891)
