The Week of Preparation
Light two purple candles: the candle of Hope, and the candle of Preparation.
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:1-2
Bring over your closest family members to have a tree-trimming party. Get out your ornaments, hot chocolate, cider or wine, Christmas cookies, chocolate cake, coffee and tea.
Wreath of Yarn. Take a circular foam wreath template and mark off three-inch sections with a pencil. Take yarn and tie to one section. Begin wrapping the yarn around the template until the section is covered. Glue end to back of wreath. Start with another color on the next section and complete the same way. Repeat with four or five festive complementary colors of yearn until wreath is completely covered. Take wooden dowel and glue across lower half of wreath opening. Attach large star, or artificial birds, leaves, greenery and berries to the dowel. Attach picture hanging hardware to the back top of wreath.
(Supplies: yarn in different colors, wooden dowel, glue, foam wreath template, artificial items, pencil, picture hanging hardware.)
Father, you have showered us with blessings. We are thankful, Lord, for all your blessings small and great. We are truly thankful for your sacrifice. Amen.
“Teach us to care and not to care. Teach us to sit still…even among these rocks, our peace in his will.” T.S. Elliot
